Some thoughts only seem to arrive in the quiet.
The moments when you're lying awake, staring at the ceiling, letting your mind drift wherever it wants to go.
Counting Cracks was written during one of those moments. It was one of several poems that arrived together, flowing almost effortlessly onto the page. The song explores the strange space between dreaming and waking, certainty and doubt, asking what happens when we stop taking reality for granted.
It's less about finding answers than it is about becoming comfortable with the questions. What if our perception shapes the world more than we realize? What if the boundaries we've accepted are far more fluid than they appear? And how much of the life we experience is happening around us...versus within us?
To me, Counting Cracks is an invitation to let go of certainty for a little while. To drift. To observe. To wonder. Sometimes the most meaningful journeys don't happen across great distances—they happen quietly, while staring at the ceiling and letting your thoughts wander somewhere entirely new.
